On May 30th, Volunteer Coordinator Hannah Margolin and Director of Youth Programs Heather Day presented on the work of the Crown Heights Community Mediation Center’s history and programs at a conference called “Community Centers for Promoting Access to Justice” in Kiev, Ukraine. The conference was hosted by the USAID’s New Justice Program, and featured our staff alongside staff of the Red Hook Community Justice Center, and other community justice centers in Singapore and Latin America. As international experts, they listened to and provided feedback on proposals for access to justice programs in Ukraine. Heather and Hannah also presented on the Mediation Center’s work at the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice during a meeting of the Coordination Council for Juvenile Justice. They discussed the concepts of approaching justice system involvement with a trauma-informed lens and taking a strengths-based approach in working with communities.
