In the midst of massive public outcry against gun violence after Parkland, Florida shooting, YO S.O.S. would like to thank funders who recognize 1) the opportunity for building multiracial alliances across class, and 2) energy must be translated into more resources for youth on the frontlines. In particular, we want to recognize the Funder’s Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FYCO) and Everytown for Gun Safety for their financial support of Brooklyn youth organizers.

YO S.O.S. is grateful to be a recipient of a grant from the Youth for Safety and Justice Fund, launched by FYCO. The Youth for Safety and Justice Fund is designed for youth-led organizations to support young organizers employing a racial justice lens and connecting gun violence to other forms of oppression.

Everytown for Gun Safety has also awarded YO S.O.S. a generous grant to continue our work against violence in Central Brooklyn and amplify our nuanced understanding of how gun violence operates in our neighborhoods. We are proud to be a part of a national movement, while maintaining our dedication to our local community.

We could not do what we do without the support of thoughtful individuals and organizations like FYCO and Everytown that recognize the importance of youth voices in places like Crown Heights, Bed-Stuy, Brownsville, and Flatbush. Additionally, our March fundraiser garnered nearly $8,500 in private donations, and we want to thank every single person who to us gave again!

We are overwhelmed with support and determined as always to work towards safer communities for everyone. YO S.O.S. is excited to turn these resources into action to build youth power and youth safety.
