On April 2, 2016 close to thirty people gathered at the corner of St. Johns Place and Schenectady Avenue where a shooting occurred two days prior to denounce the gun violence in our community. On March 31, 2016 a black male in his early twenties was shot in the leg, in front of the local convenience store. Those in attendance included community members, S.O.S. Crown Heights and S.O.S. Bed-Stuy team members, youth interns from S.O.S. and YO S.O.S., local business owners, and the local fire department.
S.O.S. works to reduce shootings and killings and to build safer neighborhoods. Whenever there is a shooting in the S.O.S. target area, the team responds by organizing a Shooting Response within 72 hours to send the message that gun violence is not acceptable or normal in our communities.
