Did you know there are specific resources for formerly incarcerated individuals? For information on jobs, legal support, housing, mental health and more, check out the Mediation Center’s “Reentry Resource Guide” as well as “A Guide for Formerly Incarcerated People in NYC” from the NYC Public Library. These offer great resources for people and families looking for support after incarceration. Additional support and information can be found at http://www.reentry.net/ny/.
For people with loved ones on Rikers Island, Brooklyn Pubic Library offers the “Telestory” program, which allows parents to communicate with their children through a live webcam. This is a great way for families to stay connected during the difficult time of incarceration.
For more support, the Mediation Center is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10 am – 5 pm for walk in services including assistance with housing search, benefits application, job readiness, and more! Call 718-773-6886 to make an appointment or stop by 256 Kingston Ave. in Crown Heights!
