Dear supporters and friends,

From all of us at the Crown Heights Community Mediation Center, Happy Thanksgiving!

This time of year, we are reflecting on everything for which we are grateful. In 2017, we have seen a decrease in shootings, more people than ever have been served by our programs, we opened two new offices, and we are reaching the community in new and exciting ways. We can do this work every day and every month thanks to the devotion of our team, and because of YOU. Whether through volunteering at Legal Hand, coming to shooting responses with Save Our Streets Brooklyn, supporting our youth programs, or attending Make It Happen’s annual conference, you have contributed to our continued growth and success.

Your support impacts people like TishanaShawnShaunaCocoEugeniaDevonte, and Migos. It allows us to have Community Engagement Liaisons, Karolin and David, who help us to center the needs of the community in all our work.

Your support helped make it possible for a group of young people to collaborate with Theatre of the Oppressed last spring to develop two plays based on their real life experiences. These plays, performed for the public, touched on many issues including the school to prison pipeline, family and peer pressure, the criminal justice system, and youth violence.

Your support made it possible for Albany Houses  to go 685 days without a shooting and Weeksville Gardens to go over one year without a shooting or killing, and for both the Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy catchment areas to go over 400 days without a homicide. Your dedication has helped make this a truly groundbreaking year for the Mediation Center. This Thanksgiving, I want to express our complete and utter gratitude for your support. To build on the momentum of this year we need your help to continue forward.

This year we are asking you to make the most generous contribution you can. Please join us in making a commitment to forging safer and healthier communities in Central Brooklyn and beyond.
