On Thursday April 26th JCP and AGVYEP youth teamed up with Progress Playbook and Miles Culture clothing store to host their first Pop Up Shop for the Dope Authentic Voice clothing line. The event was held at Miles Culture clothing store 717 Nostrand and welcomed more than 100 guests. The clothing line was created by JCP and AGVYEP youth through a series of workshops presented by Progress Playbook for 7 weeks. During the process the youth designed, planned, and organized the Dope Authentic Voice brand and the format for the Pop Up shop.

At the event the youth engaged customers with interactive stations giving them the chance to express their “Dope Authentic Voice”. At the “Dope” Station customers were asked to create a sign to stop gun violence. The “Authentic” station provided customers a chance to take a picture or video using their voice to speak out against gun violence. At the “Voice” station customers were asked to tell how they have contributed to peace in their neighborhood.

The event also included performances and presentations by the youth about the Dope Authentic Voice brand. Brooklyn based clothing designer and owner from the Lyfestyle clothing brand spoke at the event lending words of encouragement to the youth. The event was also attended by surrounding business owners who supported the youth entrepreneurial aspirations as well as their anti-gun violence message. The Pop Up shop was expected to run from 5pm-8pm, but ended early due to the exclusive t shirt selling out in 2 hours! The DAV team plans on continuing the brand with assistance from the Crown Heights Mediation Center.
