Throughout April and May we have been hosting a variety of free art workshops for Crown Heights residents as part of our annual Arts to End Violence programming. On Saturday April 30 we partnered with Brooklyn Hi-Art! Machine for a storytelling session and discussion about gentrification, followed by a workshop on silkscreen poster-making. Participants were able to learn about the silkscreening process and create their own posters with messages about anti-violence and self love.

Our next workshop will be tonight May 12 at 6PM in our Youth and Community Programs office at 267 Kingston Avenue. Local artist, Rusty Zimmerman will be running this workshop on portraiture as part of his “We are Crown Heights” portrait project! Participants will interview and create portraits of each other. If you are interested in attending please RSVP to Marlies Talay at talaym@crownheights.org or 718-619-4248.
