On Wednesday, April 18th, S.O.S. Crown Heights held a shooting response after a man was shot in the arm on Saturday April 18th. Together with Crown Heights Community Mediation Center staff, AGVYEP youth, and youth from other programs (16 attendees in total) stood to say no to gun violence in our community. The shooting was a low level shooting. Attendees at the response passed out palmcards and other public education material to passersby and spread a message of peace in the community.

We would like to note that it has been 131 days since the last fatal shooting in our catchment area, it has been 540 days since there was a shooting in or around Weeksvile Houses, and it has been 840 days since there was a shooting in or around Albany Houses. While we are saddened by Saturday’s shooting, we would like to take the time to recognize the hard work of S.O.S. staff and community members in preventing shootings and keeping people safe within the S.O.S. Crown Heights catchment area.

Shooting responses are held to express our concerns and make a statement that shootings and killings are not acceptable in our community. We would like to thank everyone who came out and stood with us against gun violence in our community. #stopshootingstartliving
